This is not a bad strategy if you want to get straight in to things and you have a few thousand to spare. There is, however, a LOT to consider before you buy a blog so please do not rush into it. Something that hasn’t been thought of yet: The key to being a successful blogger is to be creative. There are a ton of bloggers coming up with new income streams every day. Step out of the box and try something new.

7. Add your page to your Favorites. This option will place a link to your fan page in the left sidebar when you’re signed into Facebook. It’s totally optional but makes it really easy to find your page later!
Point #6 about deliberately delaying the sale happens to have this added benefit of giving the blogger more insight into the audience through the way they interact with the blog. i.e. The posts they read, the comments they leave etc.
Of course instead of using a third-party to broker your advertising deals it might make more sense financially to work directly with businesses to promote their products. Generally you will need to build up a decent sized following before going down this route.
Reddit – ads appear on the top of the various pages. They are obviously ads so users don’t feel tricked into clicking on them. When people choose to select an ad they usually know it. So there is little chance of upsetting customers this way.
Blog about something with plenty of room for discussion. A blog requires a lot of content to get going and remain interesting. You’ll be at this a long time so make sure you have plenty to talk about.

One suggestion for future consideration. Perhaps a detailed post on design of your blog and psychology of a modern-day blog visitor. Items like sidebars, headers, footers and most importantly, the actual body of the blog post. It will help the new bloggers to optimise their design and be more reader-friendly in their offer.

I am not so knowledgeable on blogging, having started my first blog last year. I however think that keywords are an important part of your blog. In fact, I made my own 10 commandments on blogging. The first one reads. “Though shall never start a blog post without a keyword in mind.”

I’m not sure I’m understanding your question. You can create a Facebook fan page from your personal FB account without linking it to your blog page in any way. I was anonymous when I did my first Facebook fan page, so that was a big concern for me.

Thanks Jamie, I had the same concerns which is why I wanted to double check with someone with more expertise. One particular offer does indeed link back to a site in the same category/content as my own blog, however it all looks very stagnant and directionless (if that makes sense).
Is there a hosting service where you can actually pay BY THE MONTH? I get that you have a money back guarantee, but that’s still a lot of money for me to shell out for something that I’m just starting out. If you are looking to blog to hopefully help generate income, then it seems natural to me for a host to let someone start out slowly.
Although I already started my own blog, I found some useful tips in there. Furthermore, I checked some of the resources you mention in section #5, they’re great and useful (didn’t read them all….. yet 😉
It can help to take a look at your favorite blogs or other popular blogs you’ve heard of with a critical eye to figure out how they’re succeeding. You can also look at the flip side: What do some blogs do that keep you from coming back?
My other point is to say, don’t blog for $10 a post. There are living-wage blogging jobs out there. Anywhere a company or publication needs to talk to a specialized audience, there’s an opportunity. Blogging really can pay the bills.

Bluehost’s WordPress-optimized plans may be more expensive than you’re willing to pay. They start at about $20/month. In that case, personal bloggers will have absolutely no problem with their cheaper shared hosting plans. You’ll still get adequate resources for your new blog, and a free domain name!
Nevertheless, are these instructions still relevant today in that I need to set up a personal ‘profile’ and then create a ‘fan’ page? As I understand it also, to keep them ‘separate’, I should avoid ‘liking’ from one to the other.
