This is all great information from someone who has had connections and still has connections for year. If you never worked at copyblogger you’d have a real job. In other words…you got lucky and the other 1988098804880979 million bloggers out there won’t have your right place right time luck and therefore won’t have your connections and therefore won’t make this kind of money. Thanks Jamie, I had the same concerns which is why I wanted to double check with someone with more expertise. One particular offer does indeed link back to a site in the same category/content as my own blog, however it all looks very stagnant and directionless (if that makes sense).

Are they sending out regular emails to their readers? Do they offer merchandise? Do they have ads? Is there a pop-up newsletter box every time you click? Do they update frequently? How do they interact with commenters? What are they doing on social media?

What a great article. I wonder if you can help me with something I have continually struggled to do. I set up my Facebook blog page some time ago in the same manner as you have suggested. However, my problem is how do you set up a Followers page for the blog profile. It only gives me the option to add a Followers page to my private identity. I am trying to keep my private identity separate to my blog identity but would like to know how many followers I have on my Facebook blog page. I think doing a post on paid ad spend would be killer, I know a lot of blog owners out there like myself who have the budget and have experimented some but just not seeing great results. I’ve used SU paid discovery, and while relatively cheap, I find that most of the traffic doesn’t convert into subscribers or return visitors.
On the other hand, with a self-hosted blog on your own domain name – you are the REAL owner of your blog. You’ll be able to name your blog whatever you want, for example “YourName.com” or “YourAwesomeBlog.com. You can end it with .com, .co.uk, .net, .org, or virtually any other web suffix. Add to that unlimited bandwidth for videos, images and content plus the free themes and you have a winning combo.
Premium domains usually start at $1,000+, but some change hands for $100,000s or even millions of dollars. Before you fall in love with your dream domain name (and have to remortgage the house), you have been warned!

Picture. Put a picture of yourself on your blog. People identify with other people. If two goofy guys from Ohio aren’t too afraid to put their pictures on their site, then you have nothing to worry about.
I agree with all of your points. I especially need to focus on visual art sides of my blogging. I use images here and there but I need to integrate them better into the blog. WordPress also have a variety of plugins that make it easy to put social sharing buttons on your blog posts. Some people like to limit the number of plugins they use on their WordPress blog because it can slow the blog down and it can open your blog up to more attacks, butt a social sharing plugin is one that should have high priority if you do choose to use plugins.
