Facebook, little bit of Pinterest. I have done a couple of guest post (I think 5 or 6 so far). Bookmarked it with Stumbleupon and Filipboard. That’s more or less all, since I don’t want to have too many social accounts that I have to update. I need time to write content. What should I focus on?
Hi Gemma, Having 10 visitors per day to a new site is great. The numbers will grow as you start building more pages. If you are concerned about visitors and want to attract more, check out the post I wrote on promoting your blog: https://startbloggingonline.com/how-to-promote-your-blog-and-get-visitors/
To start writing on the internet, you need a blogging platform for your site to sit on. There are many platforms to choose from that will give you everything you need for a strong blogging foundation.
WOW Jon! great post, Only read it quickly so I will go over it again later! Lesson 9 is the eye opener! I find it really difficult to give away great content that I have just spent hours writing, but as you say, it’s got to be done!!
It seems like you got your blog up and running – congratulations! About the “WebPage not available” – this is a common thing. Just wait a few hours, clear your browser cookies and you should be able to see your blog. If you want to speed up the process, follow this guide: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/lets-get-started/when-will-my-domain-start-working-propagation
I recommend a host I have personally paid for and used for over a decade. (As a longtime paying customer, the links below are my referral links. This means, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you make a purchase.)
Google it. When you search for “photography tips,” you get a whole a world of content. From “taking stellar photos with your Android phone” to “how to photograph fireworks,” you find tons of inspiration. Plus, you’ll see what’s already popular and you can riff on those topics in your own voice. Keyword Tool can also help. Type in “photography” and you’ll get a giant list of the top Google searches related to your topic, like photography classes, contests and apps.
Indeed an amazing post, well no doubt WordPress is spectacular Content Management System. Which help us to create stunning websites and blog instantly. Your step by step guidance make it easy for every one to go through.
Every time you send an email to your list you can offer them products/services or just get them to your visit your blog again where you can make money from ads (discussed below). This is exactly what big companies like Groupon do with their mailing lists. They send out offers on a daily or weekly basis
I always encourage my friends to look at WPengine for hosting, its a bit more pricey but is really stable and reliable, plus they include tons of goodies that are usually considered a premium service and they all work without a struggle. Thinks like a CDN, Backups, Offload to S3. All these things can really help the quality and consistency of your site and are definitely something to think about whether you are a beginner or an advanced blogger.
You will need an email marketing service to get started. By far the easiest and most reliable that I have found is Constant Contact, which offers a free trial of their services for new bloggers. I have put together a complete step-by-step tutorial on how to use Constant Contact with your blog.
I suppose I just don’t see why being DEVOID of a blog and social media will make you an attractive guest blogging candidate. I get that you’ll maybe be more focused on finding guest blogs rather than building up your Twitter following, but couldn’t you just ask easily say that we should focus on doing nothing but building followers on Twitter, because you can then build relationships and find guest posting opportunities through the people you meet in social media?
Whether you’re looking to supplement your income with a little extra to pay for a few nice treats or create a blog that will support your lifestyle then you can pretty much make as much money as you like from blogging if you are prepared to put in the hard work.
We recommend using the free Amazon Product in a Post Plugin to easily add Amazon products to your blog posts or pages. Or, you could use the premium WooCommerce Amazon Affiliates plugin to create an Amazon Affiliate store using WooCommerce.
Over time, this information will help you hone in on your blog’s goals, get specific about your niche, write more posts your readers want to see, develop relationships with sites that link to you, and eventually sell advertising.
Man 100k per month from just a single blog is absolutely Awesome. You are really an All-In-One Internet guider. I am starting out with my new blog, we are at setup stage, we are preparing free courses for email optins.
I am a writer (freelance) of print production, which as we all know, is going the way of the dinosaurs. While your tutorial was helpful, I am a dinosaur. Please send me one link (I will pay a fee, if reasonable, but I only want to pay one fee…and this tutorial leads me (I am sure, incorrectly), to believe I must pay this and that for a domain , host, ipage, etc.
Originally considered an online journal or diary, blogging has expanded into much more than a place for individuals to share their thoughts with the world. In short, a blog can be defined as a website that you regularly update with new content. You can learn more in our history of blogging post.
You can also add a Facebook button to your blog sidebar that people can click on to like your page. There are lots of plugins that will set that up or you can just use a text widget and an image. If you look at the very bottom of this site to the left of the footer, you’ll see my social icons that people can click on to follow me on all my social media accounts. Hopefully that makes sense!
This is another favorite income stream of mine. My first digital product was my ebook Tell Your Time: How to Manage Your Schedule So You Can Live Free which still sells every month. Another digital product of mine is the Knowtbook, a form of premium content.
On the other hand, with a self-hosted blog on your own domain name – you are the REAL owner of your blog. You’ll be able to name your blog whatever you want, for example “YourName.com” or “YourAwesomeBlog.com. You can end it with .com, .co.uk, .net, .org, or virtually any other web suffix. Add to that unlimited bandwidth for videos, images and content plus the free themes and you have a winning combo.
You see, when you first start a blog you have to do a lot of groundwork that takes time. Research, pillar articles, networking, logo creation, social media accounts set up, etc. It is a very time consuming process.
Personally, I use iPage (for my blog domain and hosting), and I’ve got nothing but good things to say about it. It’s probably one of the cheapest (less than $2.50 per month) hosting providers out there. A domain name will cost around $10-15 a year, but with iPage they throw that in for free :). Big smiles for that! They’re the providers I use for all of my blogs, including the one you’re reading right now.
I’m so pleased I selected your tutorial first. I am currently supporting our corporate instructional design team by assisting with quality review of training materials being developed for a number of large corporate clients. I know instructional design and find your writing and organization of content top notch!
Of course, there is still much more to learn about blogging once you have followed this guide. You can continue to read more tips and tricks on my blog or check out some of my other tutorials including my guide on how to create a website and my review of website builders.
A google search will show you what is available. Some hosting companies also proveide spam and hacking prevention services for an additional fee so you should contact your host. There are spam filters you can use.
I’m about to build another theme site/shop and was going to use WP, but based on past experiences, I am going to use Joomla because I know the capabilities and flexibility will make managing a site like this (which will have a blog in it), go much smoother, and then there’s security.
To start with, you will need to login to your blog. Go to http://www.yourblog.com/wp-admin to bring up the login screen (replace “yourblog.com” with your domain name). If you are unsure of your login name or password, check the email that was sent to you from BlueHost that has this information.
I’m impressed about the depth of insight you seem to command in this area. It is true there are lots of sites that means opposite of what they say or write but yours is different. Keep on doing a good job out there.
It is quite possible that this free hosting is with a hosting provider. HostGator is also a hosting provider. Lots of hosting providers offer free WordPress hosting with limited features. To gain full features customers will then have to choose a premium hosting packaging.
Take the Tumblr “Follow” button that slides out of the right hand corner as you scroll down the page. That feature is very hard to ignore and has played a big part in Tumblr being so “viral” among users of that platform. It has since been copied by a lot of non-Tumblr bloggers who have found it converts quite well.
It’s the best way to get your blog off the ground as quickly, easily and cheaply as possible — using WordPress.com means you don’t actually have to worry about buying a domain or hosting — they’ll take care of it for you.
This is where many bloggers start. In many ways this model of making money from blogs is not dissimilar to how a magazine or newspaper sells ads. As your traffic and brand grows you’ll find advertisers will be willing to pay to get exposure to your audience.
Thanks for the great guide! I really like your posts! The one question that I have, is what does it mean to install WP? Is it actually installing a system on your computer? Or is it just integrating Hostgator in to WP?
