This is where the fun starts on your content plan. Seriously, just go nuts and use whatever brainstorming tools you have at your disposal. Write down everything you can think of and then go back and dig even deeper into those subjects. As much as possible, make sure you tie it back to your niche idea because straying too far will diffuse the effectiveness of your targeting.

Reddit – ads appear on the top of the various pages. They are obviously ads so users don’t feel tricked into clicking on them. When people choose to select an ad they usually know it. So there is little chance of upsetting customers this way.
I have recently learned the value of outsourcing work to specialists. I used to endure sleepless nights trying to keep up with all the work necessary for building a blog. The right specialists are dramatically cheaper at tasks than I could ever hope to be as measured by the cost of my time and the amount of distractions that I created for myself.
My understanding is that you have to subscribe/pay for the business version of Word Press in order to use any of the monetizing functions. I think you should clearly state this in this article at the beginning. I think there is a degree of bait and switch here if people are just signing up for the free subscription and then finding out they have to pay for a subscription to make money. I am ok with that, it just needs to be stated up front everywhere.
On top of that, it should be easy to navigate if you want people to stick around. If it’s tricky and difficult to move around it, people won’t stay. Design is a subjective art; meaning everyone likes different things.
I have been blogging as my main source of income for the past 8 years. By default, Tumblr publishes your post. If you want to keep crafting it or if you’re not complete, you can choose to save as draft by navigating to the right of the post body. Alternatively, you can choose to add to a queue of posts, or schedule a post for later in the week. You can also save the post as private if you’d prefer to keep it hidden from public eyes.
Manually moderating your blog comments can be time-consuming if you have a lot of activity on your site. However, there are some really effective WordPress plugin solutions, such as Akismet, that can help you with automating the spam removal process so your blog always appears professional and only shows relevant and valuable discussions about your content.
This is a really interesting post Jon. What you’ve listed here are the “tools of the trade” so to speak. Every type of business has a list of things specific to that business that must happen in order for their to be income produced. If that list isn’t followed, then you have a hobby, not a business.
You can also add a Facebook button to your blog sidebar that people can click on to like your page. There are lots of plugins that will set that up or you can just use a text widget and an image. If you look at the very bottom of this site to the left of the footer, you’ll see my social icons that people can click on to follow me on all my social media accounts. Hopefully that makes sense!
Plain and simply brilliant. So many bloggers including myself have made leaps toward creating more and more content in the beginning, when in fact many top bloggers spend most of their time diving through other sources to generate that traffic, that moves to leads, and eventually profits. Modify Your Blog. Once we had our domain, hosting, WordPress, and theme, we spent a lot of time tweaking the theme to get the look and feel we wanted (i.e., making our vision a reality). Then we spent even more time tinkering with the theme and arguing about it and tweaking it some more. Thank you for the tips. I started my blog in December and I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not I want a facebook page for it. I have a bad taste in my mouth from facebook because I had a personal page and I absolutely hated it. Also, I have twitter, instagram, pinterest, and google plus so I’m not sure how much more social media time I have to spend on yet another site.
I wish I had enjoyed a positive experience working with you to accomplish these things, but sadly, I just don’t think you get what it takes to make people feel like they’re spending their money with someone who’s interested in them.

Now, I had a question. I am just 14 years old and I am entering the blog-o-sphere as an intermediate. Great question! I suggest you to install WordPress via iPage because if you decide to go self-hosted directly from WordPress.com – it will cost a lot more. That’s the main reason I’m suggest people iPage (to save some money).
2) You should have an active blog, but you should put a lot more effort into guest blogging in the beginning and when you hit 10.000 subscribers shift the focus to your own blog. Because then the effect of social media, SEO, etc on your site outweighs the traffic you’ll get from guest blogging.

Thanks for posting this. I am a new blogger and I would actually love to start vlogging. I don’t know what I am waitng on. I keep making up all types of exscuses. I think I am just afraid of how I may sound in front of the camera and afraid of messing up. I do believe that vlogging is a good way to bring more traffic to your blog and a way for your readers to know you better.
