Hi. Thank you for your informative post. I’m still looking for the best (least expensive or free) value to use my own domain (not with wordpress.com or the like in the domain name). If you’ve included this information somewhere, I have missed it. I also didn’t see it on the comparison chart? I’m sure it’s probably there, but maybe worded differently…?
Domain and Hosting. The first thing we did when starting our blog was go to Bluehost and register our domain. We didn’t even need to set up a WordPress page first, which is the platform we use, since Bluehost does all that for you. Bluehost’s basic price is $2.95 a month, which works for 99% of people (go to this link to receive a 50% discount off the monthly price and a free domain). Then, we did a simple, free, “one-click” install of WordPress through Bluehost. When we had questions we were able to chat with the “live chat” folks at Bluehost for free. They pointed us in the right direction and made starting our own blog super easy.
Our blog actually covers travel tips and insights into expat life along the Oaxacan coast of Mexico, so I am not sure that those sites would be the target audience for our blog’s content even if they were more accessible, which clearly they aren’t.
I am not fully agree with your Lesson #4, as you said, there are only maximum 2% buyers who can spend $1k or more. So to sell product with this pricing you need to be a experienced online marketer, otherwise its hell difficult job to find these 2% clients.
Im currently interested on starting a blog and Im wondering if it is possible to blog on a smartphone? Since I cant always carry a laptop around and most of the time ideas and inspirations just pop-up from unexpected places and I dont want to waste the feelings and emotions that I wanted to express on my writings just because I cant conveniently start from where I am
Totally, irrevocably sold on long content! It’s taking a long time to learn everything, I still don’t know what product to offer as I’m bad at getting specific – but my traffic and subscribers are growing. One more step to take along the road.
Shared hosting is the cheapest and most basic form of hosting available. This kind of hosting stores your website on a server that you share with other customers of the hosting company. And, you share all of the resources – such as bandwidth and disk space – of the server as well.
The step-by-step guide on this site should give you everything you need to get started, but if you run into some issues, or just want some personalized advice, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. Blogging is my passion, and I would love to talk with you about it!
If, however, you do experience extensive downtime with Bluehost, they’ll let you pull out of your contract early. If you do this, they’ll issue a pro-rated refund for the remainder of your subscription.
You’ll have 24/7 access to a professional support team and unlimited storage. The downside is you won’t have the huge range of plugin, widget and design options as with WordPress, since many of those are community-designed and maintained.
Great post ! Thanks. Personally I see a tendency that is becoming more and more important. Small and medium size bloggers getting to work together on a range of projects. Contests, swap of content, NGO’s and charity actions…
Absolutely not. Yes, there are way more blogs online today than there were 5 years ago when we started, but there were also fewer people reading travel blogs and fewer companies willing to work with us.
Are you looking for the top ways to make money online that are NOT scams? WordPress is the largest publishing platform on the planet, and it powers over 27% of all websites. You can use WordPress and blogging to earn money online by doing what you love. In this article, we will share the 25 best ways to make money online blogging with WordPress.
I LOVE this post and have shared it as far and wide as I can. I must admit, having recently started writing for the HuffPost, I’ve felt guilty for hardly posting anything on my own blog (just don’t have the time to do both) so your post has made me feel much better for prioritising the guest posting.
I started out with just a blog post and an about me page. It is entirely up to you but it can often be a good idea to have a few posts when you start your blog so people can learn more about you and the topics you are covering. There is no right and wrong answer 🙂
This is another one of those tips that have been around for a while but become more and more relevant with every passing year. If you start a blog in 2018 you should expect your income streams to change. That can be a really scary thing if you aren’t prepared.
Websites. Websites are anything that appear on the internet that has information for people to check out. Sure, they can include a blogging section that readers can view, but the main parts of a website include things like a homepage, portfolio of work, client testimonials, FAQ section, a contact page, and even a company’s terms and privacy statements. The content is meant to be seen by site visitors, but not necessarily openly discussed.
If you want to blog anonymously or don’t want people to contact you, you can leave this out, but otherwise you’ll want to include some information about how people can contact you — especially if you’re hoping to make money blogging.
“I already have ad domain name” – this means you need to type in the domain you’ve bought already and then connect it with HostGator through nameservers. More information can be found here: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/lets-get-started/dns-name-servers/how-do-i-change-my-dns-or-name-servers
That said, don’t feel like every post needs to be an essay. Online readers generally scan content, so as long as you’re formatting your posts so they’re easy to read, write as much or as little as you like.
Thanks Ramsay, for the detailed guide to become successful in blogging. Writing unique content with relevant images, videos would be an best way to succeed & to drive organic traffic. Infographics is another way to get peoples link to your website.
This is not a bad strategy if you want to get straight in to things and you have a few thousand to spare. There is, however, a LOT to consider before you buy a blog so please do not rush into it. If you’d like to learn more about this idea please leave a comment and I’ll consider doing an article on it.
Because it doesn’t cost you anything, WordPress.com is a good option if you want to start a blog as a school project, to stay in touch with friends and family, or simply to see if you like this whole blogging thing at all before investing in something more substantial.
Thanks for stopping by! You are correct – you can “like” your own page, then when something is published there, you can share it on your personal FB profile just like you would with any other post from a page. Hope that helps!
I must say, its a great article and enjoyed a lot. There’s so much good information which can be followed and actioned. I was in similar situation before trying to make money online, but couldn’t quite make it. So started slowly and work on the content and SEO. After 4 months I made $2. After this, I was able to make around $50 a month from the same blog. And recently I sold that blog. It happened with me so guys you can make it happen as well. But, please remember if you are looking for big money quick then it is not for you.
