Blogging on a website builder, depending on which one you choose, can be kind of a pain in the neck. Why? Because most site builders are created with just two types of customers in mind: small businesses and e-commerce sellers.
Once you’ve really understood the audience, it’s a case of demonstrating the potential value the product (in excess of the cost) will bring to the audience in the form of a solved problem. If it’s clear that your product will deliver more value to the customer than they pay for it, then it’s a no brainer for the customer.
“I already have ad domain name” – this means you need to type in the domain you’ve bought already and then connect it with HostGator through nameservers. More information can be found here: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/lets-get-started/dns-name-servers/how-do-i-change-my-dns-or-name-servers
my blog is 9 months old, I’ve done many things to get it going, but still, gets only about 10 visits per day. I’m not sure what is the problem. It’s not very niche focused, it’s broadly in the “education” and “life-hacks” niche maybe, I recognize that may be a problem, but is it so fatal? Or it takes more time?
When an up-and-coming band auditions to be an opening act, do you think the more famous band cares where they have played? Not really. All they care about is the strength of the audition. If the up-and-coming band is good, they get the gig. If they suck, it doesn’t matter where they played or how good everyone else says they are, they get a polite no.
Loved this article. I do get caught up with wasting time sharing to Twitter and Facebook and not seeing the traffic. I had my 1st Blogiversary in Nov 2014 and am getting a lot of positive feedback but not seeing the traffic. How do you get on some guest blog spots? We have an 1820 Farmhouse and do most of the work restoring the house and also I have a passion for cooking so I do a lot of food presentation and recipes. Love to hear what you think at BeFedAgain.com
You’ve got my attention & gratitude. Just launched a new chalk enhanced paint line, know I want and need to start a blog and get engaged on my Facebook and website. But dare I say, it’s all a bit scary & daunting. New to you and look forward to figuring out where to even begin.

Thank you very much for such a useful information especially for the newbie blogger like me. I had followed your guide and got the result I wanted. The setup of WordPress in HOSTGATOR recommended by you is simple and easy.
My other point is to say, don’t blog for $10 a post. There are living-wage blogging jobs out there. Anywhere a company or publication needs to talk to a specialized audience, there’s an opportunity. Blogging really can pay the bills.
People started launching blogs and websites back in 2000 and even earlier. Unfortunately, the best domains are already taken. You’d need to keep brainstorming to come up with something that hasn’t taken yet 🙂
Absolutely not. Yes, there are way more blogs online today than there were 5 years ago when we started, but there were also fewer people reading travel blogs and fewer companies willing to work with us.
There’s no need to complicate the process either. Develop a valuable free giveaway that people get when they subscribe to your blog, and then add a simple lead magnet like the one we use here at Blog Tyrant. It converts really well.
Although we love Bluehost, we wish they provided an uptime guarantee. When a web host guarantees a certain amount of uptime (typically 99.9%), their customers can receive compensation if their website goes down for extended periods.
As you can see from the results there are a variety of different websites here from blogs, to eCommerce sites, to forums. Google also shows there are over 14.7 million websites that mention “everyday carry”.
For some reason, bloggers hate the idea of spending money on advertising. But if you look at the latest structure of Google, for example, you’ll notice how much of it is weighted towards ads. On my laptop they take up the whole screen before I scroll.
My blog is a blog for blogging. To express my thoughts, and maybe make money as a side effect. There is a huge difference between those situations, and the differences lead the use of ads, guest posts and so on.
Keyword Research. Take the time to find out what keywords relate to your content so that when people search them, your website appears as one of the most relevant results. Add keywords to the title of your blog post, in the content body, and in metadata such as image alt text.
I’m trying to get going for the minimum cost in the first instance. So, my question; is it possible to have more than one blog (or niche) attached to a single website? I have been advised it will cost around £250 for a basic WordPress site (once you have domain, hosting, theme etc). I have done a lot of work with small businesses as an advisor and specialise in marketing. I’m considering offering online courses and e guides. however, I would also like to blog about my hobbies of walking and motor homing. It’s just where to start!
Thanks for this informative blog post! Love it! I am about to start blogging on my business website and this is some great advice. Got to know you through Marie Forleo’s B-School, who recommended you.
Take the Tumblr “Follow” button that slides out of the right hand corner as you scroll down the page. That feature is very hard to ignore and has played a big part in Tumblr being so “viral” among users of that platform. It has since been copied by a lot of non-Tumblr bloggers who have found it converts quite well.
Great content. Just what I have been looking for. I realized that I have been spending lots of hours creating content for my blog but doing nothing when it comes to outreaching and promiting my content.
You are man of kind. I do blogging since 7 years ago. I didn’t earn much like others. The reason behind i didn’t gave readers value. I pushed them to click my advertising. That’s silly. But, now, i understand that readers need something useful for their life. I called it human to human approach. Not human to machine, like the way i did. E Since months ago, i read your blog everyday. Just like a breakfast at Tiffany.
I’m starting from square one in terms of becoming a blogger. I don’t even know what I want to blog about yet. My goals for starting a blog are a bit different than many, however. I’m not trying to create another source of income; I would simply be trying to create a reader base because my ultimate goal is to become a published novelist and when pitching your book, I believe it is helpful to already have an established readership. This will theoretically help you stand out to agents/publishers. 🙂 In addition, blogging would help me develop my writing skills, hopefully be of some use to people, and allow me to express myself and connect with others. Do you have any advice for me?
Great article. I recently came into blogging. I hadn’t completed what quantity I had learnt from my initial try. currently, with the new diary, I started a few month alone, I’m seeing a rise in traffic on a daily basis that is kind of stunning and really exciting. therefore I even have been reading everywhere the way to legitimize a diary. Your article is superb and in-depth. Many thanks for sharing. I will be able to definitely take on some of your advice. Cheers Jamie!
These tips are worth WAY more than gold… Way too awesome man. I’m printing this and keeping it as a part of my study notes for blogging. I can’t seem to find a post that I don’t want to read again and again. I admit though, I’m one of those bloggers who started off writing an ebook that didn’t make a dime. I’ve got a lot to learn!
Here at Smart Blogger, our products cost $9,997, $1,997, and $997, $497, $197, and $47. We started on the expensive side first, and we gradually worked our way down. It’s been much, much more profitable this way.
Those are six popular sharing buttons. There are many more. Whichever you choose make sure you limit the number of icons that appear and also make sure the plugin doesn’t slow down your page speed dramatically. If it does you’ll lose readers.
If you use the method below, $5 to $10 a month. I blogged for years on this budget. As my blog and income grew, I eventually started paying for more premium tools and services, but they are not required to start.
If you need a little help I would highly recommend you check out my article How to Start a Blog in which I run through the steps you need to take to get up and running. It’s really not as hard as you might think!
I don’t know many bloggers who earn money from their blog alone. By that, I’m referencing mainly to my previous point about thinking bigger than your blog. Most bloggers don’t earn a living just from selling sidebar ads and writing one post everyday. A Beautiful Mess sells books and e-courses. Designlovefest teaches Blogshop, a popular Photoshop workshop for bloggers. Oh Joy! just created a line of products for Target. These are some of the biggest bloggers I know of, yet they are constantly innovating and thinking of new ways to use their blog as a creative starting point and marketing tool. Be an innovator. Branch out.
A lot of bloggers launch a cheap e-book as their first product, and then they get frustrated when they don’t make much money. Here’s why: the real profit is at the end of the funnel, not the beginning.
Google analytics is an amazing, free analytics service for tracking your website visitors. It provides a wealth of information such as where your visitors come from and which web pages perform the best. This helps bloggers learn who to target with their content and which blog topics people like the most.
WHA??? I cannot believe how many of you are afraid to vlog! I am creating a conference next year that is centered around new media (vlogging included) and working with brands. I had better see you all there to learn about the importance of this social media tool! LOL
I’ve been searching online to find out how can I turn my business fan page into my main feed page so my main page is not getting all the post that I post for my business page I don’t want to irritate.
Thank you for all this information! Is a cooking blog a good subject for a profitable blog or is it better to go write about general subject like relationship for example. In that case what would be the way to have affiliation? Also is there a way to target a specific country? Is English the language to use preferably or French is good aswell?
WordPress makes it easy to host a paid webinar. Whether you’re using your site to actually host the webinar, or just to advertise your webinar and register participants, it’s crucial for your webinar success.
The most hardcore, but lucrative, step in the make-money-as-a-blogger world, is creating your own ebook, course or other product — and it will likely yield the best financial results, especially if you don’t have a massive audience yet.
Firslty thank you for sharing all this great info, so far everything you have explained has worked. However I am stuck on the “choosing my theme”, I am hesitant because I don’t know if I am STUCK with whatever I choose and at this point I want a longterm awesome working blog and website. Can I try themes out to actually understand what I want or do I just choose and then that’s it I am stuck with it. Most importantly I want to be able to add “ads” so I can make some income from my site, just to cover some of my expenses and time, but I have no idea which themes allow this and how do I find out. Frustrated and stuck in limbo for a couple weeks now. Thanks for your help
Affiliate marketing is one of my favorite and most profitable income streams. You can highlight products or services you use and love without having to do the work of creating or maintaining that product yourself. I talk about affiliate marketing in much more depth in What is Affiliate Marketing? and My Top Affiliate Marketing Tips.
Wonderful post. there were so many ideas that I got from you and now I can’t wait to update my comment blog posts. Very well done and thank you so much for sharing such n important post. I also appreciated all the comments you generated from some very experienced bloggers.
Unfortunately you’d have to take that up with Facebook; to my knowledge they don’t allow you to enter a custom category. I’m surprised that nothing on the list would be relevant since it’s a pretty extensive list.
Themes can be changed easily. Pick a simple theme and start your blog. As you continue and grow your blog you will decide to change the theme. Do that then, but the idea is to become UNSTUCK and start now.
You can use your own domain name on a platform such as Tumblr for free but as you are on their platform you will be restricted to the types of content you can produce, the types of advertisements you can host and it is difficult to move to a self hosted WordPress environment later down the line.
